Dave, WJ2O gives the thumbs up just before the team left Cape Town. Here is the audio log report:

And here is the tracker showing them leaving:
There is a bit of irony here. The Braveheart is passing the SA Agulhas II, a ship that we had been in negotiations with, but which did not work out. There are many “back stories” to discuss about the making of the project, but for now the “show is on the road” so to speak, and the team and crew aboard the Braveheart are very psyched up and ready to activate Heard Island.
The team does have a Hustler vertical mounted to the rail of the Braveheart, but I am sure they will need some time and calm seas and some time to acclimate to their new “home” before firing up a radio. Perhaps the WSPR beacon will come on – that would be exciting to follow as well.
As co-organizer of the VK0EK DXpedition, I am so pleased to see all of this happening and am very excited and happy for the team – a group of wonderful people doing wonderful things and starting out on a fantastic voyage and adventure.
May the wind be at their backs and they have calm seas. Godspeed!

I spoke with Bob on his cell phone as the boat left the harbor. It was 7:10 a.m. PST.
A little delay in Capetown as they had to wait for the harbor master.
He said that everyone was thrilled to be on their way and that all is well.
I’m wishing them a safe and calm journey.
